I can remember several years ago, when the world was a very different place, hearing the Big Fat Idiot himself criticizing the Dems for being pessimistic in their approach to portioning within the available budget. His argument held that the Dems were short-sighted and limited the overall quantity of available resources by way of their viewpoint. If I remember Limbaugh’s stance correctly, his attitude was that the “pie” was one that could expand, with the provision of a good economy. Of course, he was probably as high as a kite on painkillers when he said this, but it seems that the chicken of this sort of thinking has come home to roost. I’m referring specifically to the budget that Zippy the Pinhead wants to push through.
Now, keep in mind that one of the provisions of magic-pie budgeting is a healthy and growing economy. Hmmm… when was the last time I saw one of those? Was it when, oh, I don’t know - CLINTON was in office!?! We’ve heard all sorts of drivel about how the economy is growing from Bush and his partisans. Might I suggest that it is growing in a rather hypertrophic fashion: a fine bit of boom for those that are involved in the machinery of economy (stock market, industry management - those that got substantial tax breaks) and bust for the rest of us. To put it in blunt terms: SHOW ME THE MONEY, MOFO - show me the money.
So, here’s the thing. This budget is a staggering $2.57 T, which Bush refers to as lean and responsible. Obviously, his definition of either word is not strongly founded in reality. The major benificiaries of this plan are, of course, defense and homeland security. Now, I’m all about being secure and defended, but at some level, I can’t help but think that this whole push is just furtherance of the military-industrial complex’s cause. Meantime, cuts are proposed to… what else? DOMESTIC SPENDING! (insert “I Love Lucy” or Carson ((may he rest in peace)) “Tonight Show Theme” here.) With cuts to farm subsidies, health programs for the poor and veterans, literacy and environment protection programs, I can’t help but wonder if there isn’t some inborn disdain for the disadvantaged.
Bush himself did a bit of two-stepping in saying that these cuts are, in so many words, to programs that aren’t producing results. By that token, I propose that we should cut Bush’s salary and redistribute his war chest. Let’s face it - he doesn’t need it as it is and he’s not producing results either.
So, I guess I’ve figured out how the magic pie grows: by yanking pieces out of disadvantaged and disenfranchised hands. Ya know with all the talk of having a nation built on Christian principles, apparently the virtue of charity got lost in the shuffle.
