It’s official, my friends: this country has lost its mind.
I’ve just seen mention of a lobby that is behind an amendment that would allow foreign-born citizens to legally run for the office of president. Now, let me state that I am a firm believer in the ideas that immigration has been and is vital to the growth and identity to this country, and that this is not a nation state, but a country born of ideals. However, this proposed amendment is nothing more than a smokescreen for the Republican Party to further the career of one of its more “charismatic” members, Schwarzenegger.
This is genuinely pathetic, and I still have yet to understand the mentality of Californians who would elect such a piece of executive office window-dressing. What further muddles the waters is the fact that the Californian electoral vote went to Kerry! What’s going on out there?
Here’s a man that mangles the language and can’t keep his hands to himself. This is not the kind of person who should be governing a state, let alone be the beneficiary of a constitutional amendment.
It is most likely that this effort will be shot down, but I cannot help but think that this rouse to maintain Republican control should never have seen the light of day.
P.S. I will be writing more soon about the exodus from the Bush cabinet. Keep an eye out.
