Well, as I watch John Kerry make his concession speech, there are a flood of thoughts coursing through my mind. I’ll try to itemize, to just hit on a few points - not only am I mentally and physically weary, but my overall feeling doesn’t lend itself to eloquence at the moment. With that said, here goes:
Ohio, you should be ashamed of yourself. You’ve had the tar beaten out of you economically for the past four years, and yet you put those who took liberty with your jobs back in office. What were you thinking?
So much for sending a message to the rest of the world. The hope that I hold out for is that other nations will see that this was a close election, and realize that no true mandate was given to these pushy, imperialistic demagogues.
There’s been a lot of talk about “reuniting” and “healing” this country. Well, that’s just fine! after four years of doing everything you possibly could to drive wedges between religious factions, gay and straight, militaristic and pacifist, rich and poor. I suppose, George and Co., that you’ve been given a chance to correct these ills - that you never should have caused to begin with. A second term of office is not a make-up exam, nor is this country your set of Legos to play with, to build up and tear down as you please - and neither is Iraq. Forget the record deficit that you’ve created. What you owe us and the rest of this green earth you can’t hope to repay, and that is justice. The hundreds of thousands of lives damaged and taken in the past four years are yours to answer to God with.
I take this moment to announce my campaign to abolish the instrument of ownership elitism, the Electoral College. Too long has this institution stood in the way of true democracy; a democracy that we can more than achieve in the wake of growing technology. It is argued that the College exists to give weight to the votes of smaller states, but this only divides us further as a nation. With rampant redistricting to serve the purpose of incumbency, the EC can only enable more political entrenchment. We need to approach the role of the presidency with more individual responsibility. This person is not only chief executive of this nation, but THE PEOPLE’s representative to the world. He is the face of America, whether we approve or not. Please join me in this campaign to further enable the will of the people. Let your representatives know that a time for genuine change has come.
My brothers and sisters, I thank you for taking the time to read my entries during this campaign. I hope to remain a voice for democracy and justice, and I hope that you will continue your thoughtful support.
